About the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Charity

The RNOH Charity is a vital partner in the way the RNOH delivers care. Since its inception in 1997 it has received and administered millions of pounds’ worth of donations, which have funded improvements to hospital facilities, supported pioneering research, funded staff training, and assisted in numerous other essential projects. While the RNOH Charity still works to enhance existing hospital facilities, its primary focus until 2018 is to promote and process contributions towards the RNOH’s Redevelopment Appeal. Please click here for more information about the Appeal.

What is the Make It Possible Campaign?

The Make It Possible campaign is an awareness raising campaign for our Redevelopment Appeal. We want as many people as possible to know about the life-changing work the RNOH does and the fact that the RNOH Charity is raising funds to help the hospital transform people’s lives. Our campaign message is: from pioneering breakthroughs to lifelong care, from children to war veterans – with your help, we will continue to do our invaluable orthopaedic work, rebuilding people’s lives. For information about the campaign, please go to our website.

What is the RNOH Redevelopment Appeal?

The RNOH’s Redevelopment Appeal was launched in 2012, with the aim of raising £15 million through philanthropic support. These funds will enable us to build and purchase a range of essential facilities for our Stanmore hospital, which will dramatically improve our patient care, but which are not affordable within the limits of NHS funding. So far we have raised over £5.8 million towards this total.

Who runs Make It Possible?

The platform is run by the fundraising and development team of the RNOH Charity who work with a highly supportive Advisory Panel of clinical and commercial experts from the hospital, chaired by Mr Andy Goldberg, a leading orthopaedic specialist at the RNOH. We are incredibly excited to be the first NHS Hospital Charity to launch a charity crowdfunding platform and to work with Hubbub as they are the UK’s only dedicated crowdfunding provider of white labelled solutions for the non-profit sector. With their help, our crowdfunding website www.makeitpossible.org.uk will enable us to raise funds for lots of brilliant projects as well as enhancing the experience of our patients.

For each project there will be an itemised shopping list of everything needed for the project so that you can see exactly what your contribution to the hospital will be. The great thing about this is that you can choose exactly which projects you’d like to support and know that when the target for that project has been met, you’ve directly helped that to happen. You can offer a small amount of support, anything from £10 (€15, $15) upwards. If you'd like to make a sizable donation towards a project that won't incur fees, please just contact the Fundraising and Development Team on 0208 909 5362, or makeitpossible@rnoh.nhs.uk.

Can I support more than one project?

You are free to support as many projects as you like. The aim of this platform is to give you the freedom to make a donation towards a part of the hospital or project that is of particular interest to you. However, if you don’t want to support any particular project but would still like to make a donation to the RNOH Charity, please just visit our donation page here. Alternatively, if you’d like to have a donation form sent out to you or would like a member of the fundraising team to take your payment over the phone, just call us up on 0208 909 5362.

How do I submit an application for my own crowdfunding idea?

The platform is open to anyone with an interest in orthopaedics or who is supportive of the RNOH. You may have a particular connection to us if you or someone you know has been treated here, you may work here, or you may just think we do a fantastic job and want to help us to keep going. Submit your idea and even if we don’t think it’s suitable for the crowdfunding platform our fundraising team will be able to suggest an alternative option for you to get involved in.

How long does it take to find out if I have been successful?

Once the Advisory Panel has received your idea, they will immediately acknowledge your application and will then be in touch at a later date to let you know what the next steps will be.

What happens if a project doesn’t reach its target fundraising amount?

If the project does not reach its target fundraising amount then it will not go ahead. No money will be taken from anyone who has pledged. A project must reach its funding goal before time runs out or no money changes hands. This is to protect everyone involved. The RNOH cannot accept responsibility if a project does not raise the amount required.

Can I Gift Aid my donation?

If you are a UK tax payer you are eligible to Gift Aid your donation. Your donation will qualify as long as it is not more than 4 times what you have paid in tax for that tax year (6th April – 5th April)

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid allows us to claim up to 25% extra on your donation at no extra cost to you. If you are a UK tax payer you are eligible to Gift Aid your donation. All you have to do is either sign the Gift Aid declaration on a donation form or check the little Gift Aid box next to your donation and we will be able to claim back 25p for every £1 that you donate to us.

How much of my donation will actually go toward the project I’m supporting?

If you are a UK taxpayer and eligible for Gift Aid then more than 100% of the money you donate will go to the project and the Charity. This is because we can claim 25p from the Government for every pound you donate. Once a project is successful a small percentage of the project (before Gift Aid) goes towards administrative fees for running the platform (5% to Hubbub) and between 1-4% to the card processing sites. These fees allow us to maintain and develop the site. If you would like to make a sizable donation without incurring fees on the total donated amount, thus allowing more of your donation to go towards the project, please contact us directly at makeitpossible@rnoh.nhs.uk, or call us on 0208 909 5362.

How do I get in contact with the team?

You can contact the RNOH Charity by emailing us at makeitpossible@rnoh.nhs.uk, or give us a call on 0208 909 5362.

How do I make a pledge?

Simply find a project you like and hit the 'Back' button on the right-hand side of the page and follow the on-screen instructions.

Can I pledge anonymously?

You can choose not to have your name or the amount you’ve given displayed when you make your pledge by choosing the appropriate option when you donate. However, if you choose to receive a reward for your pledge then once the project you are supporting reaches its minimum required amount, the RNOH Charity will use the contact details you've entered to send you your reward.

Will my contact details be stored?

If you do not want any of your details to be stored on our database, please tick the opt out box which you will find when you make your pledge. As a supporter, you are free to pledge anonymously, meaning that your name and the amount that you have donated will not be shown on the campaign’s page. However, if the Creator has specified particular rewards in exchange for donations and you choose to receive a reward, then the Creator will have access to your name and details (if the campaign achieves its minimum required amount) in order to be able to send you the reward. You do have the option to pledge a donation to a campaign without claiming a reward. As a Creator you will be able to see the username, donation size, and selected reward (if any) that a supporter has donated. If the supporter has chosen to remain anonymous and has not asked for a reward, you will not be able to see any of their details.

When will my card be charged?

Your account will be charged after the project fundraising deadline but only if the project to which you pledge reaches its minimum required amount by this date. If the project is unsuccessful then no money will change hands so your account will not be charged.

Can I cancel my pledge?

We would hope that you wouldn’t want to cancel your pledge, but if you are sure that you’d like to withdraw your support you can do this by contacting the fundraising team at makeitpossible@rnoh.nhs.uk and we can take care of this for you. Remember, if the project that you have pledged to support does not meet its minimum requirement you don’t need to take any further action as the money will not be taken from your account.

How Do I Submit an Application?

Ideas can be submitted from anyone who wants to help the RNOH. Just click on the Create tab and fill in the application form. At this stage you are only asked to complete a few details with an overview of your idea. Your idea will be reviewed by our Advisory Panel that will ensure that your idea is in keeping with the RNOH Crowdfunding Guidelines. If your application is successful, you will be notified and we will work with you to take your campaign live. Then all you have to do is start promoting your campaign to everyone you know!
